New lawn from seed. Weeds.

TsurimanJuly 5, 2014

I sod cut and tore out my back yard this spring and seeded with pendington Midwest seed. Added some dirt and peat to level it out and add some help for the seed. I've got a lot of weeds. I've hand picked one half but it's taking forever. Help please. I want a nearly perfect yard.

And some crab grass. #4.
Sorry for the horrific long first post.
Seems this is the best place to ask.
Thanks!

Where do you live?
What is your watering schedule (frequency and duration)?
What seed was in your mix? Was it both fescue and Kentucky bluegrass?

Generally you can expect lots of weeds, because you seeded in the spring. Had you seeded in the fall, you would have gotten none of these summer annual weeds.

For the first several weeks sprinkler twice a day for 15 minutes. Then once a day. Now nature has provided a lot of moisture. I'll turn in the spinklers tomorrow if it doesn't rain again.
Basically. 65% rye. 15% fescue. 20% KGB.
Total newbie to reseeding a whole yard.
What to do now to get the weeds under control.
I've mowed 5-6 times already.
Thx.

Is there anything that I can apply to help with the weeds?

I cannot spend any more time on my hands and knees out there. The taller grass that I have is almost gone with picking.

The first pic is what I am hoping I can get under control. Any idea what kind of weed it is?
Thanks
