I'd like to know what this tree is

There don't appear to be any leaves yet, and there are clusters of flowers or seeds which are light brown. Picture taken March 12 in St. Louis.

Boxelder generally shows opposite branching.

I thought Ailanthus as well. There were trees in PA that at winter's end were loaded with the brown seed pods as shown in the photo.

Yes, I know and I could not rule out from the picture that it did or didn't have opposite branching.
