Shrub with blooming purple berries

HopworksApril 8, 2013

I have searched everywhere, well, ok, almost everywhere, for someone to ID this shrub we have in our new house's front yard.

We love the shrub! So, we should at least know what it is!

I wish I would have photographed it before I hedged it, because neat and clean, it looks like any light-green boxwood.

It produces these purple berries that turn into flowers.

Check the clipping I shot and uploaded here.I have a much higher resolution image if needed.

Thanks in advance!

PS... We want to know how to propagate it! Clippings? I want these in the back yard. I LOVE IT! THANK YOU!

USA is a big place, whereabouts is this shrub located?

Myrtus communis perhaps?

Here is a link that might be useful: Myrtus communis

The flowers turned into these, not the other way around. Myrtus was my thought also.

San Tan Valley, Arizona is our location. Thank you for the identification, Myrtus communis or true myrtle is definitely it.
