Anyone know what this is? I *think* it might be an aster or something w/aster-like flowers? It is growing on a mt in Northern VA.
Perhaps a Eurybia sp., one of the wood asters.
Well, finally something that's supposed to be here!! Thanks Lycopus!
agree. looks a lot like my white wood asters. Eurybia divaricata?
You know, Bubble, I looked at E. divaricata too but the purplish/red hue to the leaves made me think maybe not? I googled and all pics showed E. divaricata to have greener leaves....do your white wood asters have purplish leaves? Any other possibilities? I'm in a cove forest off the Appalachian Trail in Northern VA if location helps! Thank-you for your input!
compare yours with these -
I have a lot of these early in the season (about now):
followed by a slew of these late in the season:
I always thought they were E. divaricata
hope this helps you
Yes! Those are what I have but look at the back of them...yours are purple too! Maybe it's just a variation but I can't find any pics that show this purple colouring on the undersides of the leaves for E. divaricata. Anyway, I am very happy because I used a LOT of mulch to try and kill stiltgrass this year and the E. divaricata or its cousin has spread like wild fire :)! Thanks so much for your help!
