Not-so-creeping thyme

agathafroo(5B)May 23, 2014

These seeds were sold to me as creeping thyme, but they looks nothing like any creeping thyme I've seen. Waaaay too upright. What is this?

It looks like oregano. Have you tried rubbing the leaves together and smelling it?

There is no scale in the picture. How big are the leaves? If they are small it could be creeping thyme - being a very young plant it will not have started creeping yet. Imo it looks more like Thyme than Oregano in general appearance and habit - as long as those leaves are the right size.

The leaves are about half an inch long, the whole plant is about six inches. When the leaves rubbed together, they smell herb-like, but I don't think I can discern between thyme and oregano.
