Tree seedling

Can you tell what kind of tree planted itself in my garden? I live in northern Utah with sandy alkaline soil, if that helps.

I agree. Invasive little buggers. Love to grow along our fencelines and people don't get rid of them and in a few years there's a line of scraggly awful looking tree things that even Dr. Seuss wouldn't put in his books! ha Fast growers.

listen to me ..

any tree .... THAT PLANTS ITSELF.. in YOUR garden ....

is.. by definition.. a problem ...

kill it now ...

and i bet a nickle.. you will find others .. kill them also ...

there is no upside to weed trees ... IMHO .. if you want a tree... choose a good one.. there are hundreds to choose from ...

Thanks for the guesses... I looked up Ulmus. I didn't know that's the name for the dreaded Siberian Elm that I have killed hundreds of in my yard already. A terribly invasive weed tree here.

Thanks for leading me to Ash trees. It looks like this might be a common green ash. That wouldn't work for me where I wanted to transplant it. I was hoping a real "gem" of a tree planted itself, but that's never the way it happens, is it?
