I recently got a used Ryan string trimmer from a friend of mine. It had a lot of problems and din't run at all. After a lot of cleaning and replacing a few parts I finally got it running and it worked fine but I only had a small piece of cutting string left on the spool so I bought a new spool of line. When I attempted to replace the line the recoil spring fell out. I have no literature on this trimmer and I've tried for days to figure out how the spring attaches. I figure the inside spring end fastens onto the plastic gear on the rope pulley but I don't know where the outer end fastens or how tight I actually have to rewind the spring. Can someone help me please ? Thanks

This kind of reads that you were working on the line feed and the recoil came apart- which is the pull rope mechanism.
If you are referring to the spring in the spool- it just sets inside and doesn't "attach". If you are talking about the recoil, one end will slide in slot or hook in the hub of the pulley and the other to a tab/ slot/ peg in the housing. If the end of your spring doesn't seem to have something formed on each end -likely it is damaged.
