Not in my garden, 5/1/14

These extremely old stairs led down to a water hole on Bonaire. Long before I was born, the local farmers took their water from the spring at the bottom and carried it up to their crops (sometimes) and their livestock (all the time).

Oh wow! About the only way I'd try to go up--or down--those stairs is by sitting on my 'bottom' and bumping up/down! :>)

Those farmers must have been tough, strong people.

I agree, McWheel - and most likely they treated water with care and respect.

If we would have to do that, we would real fast change our water use.
Lilo, while you don't have to climb those stairs, you are used to watch your water consumption.

Bonaire is a part of the Dutch Antilles, along with Curacao and Aruba. Although they are in the Caribbean, they don't get the storms that plague other parts of the Caribbean. In a few places, notably Aruba, it is almost arid. Bonaire, a small island, has lots of salt flats that attract flamingos! I don't do underwater stuff anymore, but I have been told that Bonaire has some super diving sites (the island of Roatan, off the coast of Honduras, also has some great diving I have been told).
