Could you help me identify this tree by its flower?

I took a picture of this tree flower in MA. It was on somebody's lawn - so, most probably, not native.

Not a flower, but the emerging leaves of an Acer.

But they do emerge from the flower, don't they?
And finally - any idea of what kind of acer it is? Red maple?
