Lilac...ish

We bought a house back in November, and I don't know what these shrubs are. I can't really tell the natural shape because the previous owner pruned them quite severely. The leaves look almost exactly like lilac, and the blooms are similar, but smaller. Bark is rich brown with tiny spots, leaves opposite. Fragrance is very (!) strong. Given the rest of the plantings, I would not guess they're anything exotic.

Looks like a lilac. It might be a 'Miss Kim'. Check out the link below and see if you agree.

the fine petaled ones.. i always called korean lilac ...

though i see the link calls it manchurian..

can anyone clear that up for me ..

The Korean lilac is S. meyeri. For me the ID features distinguishing them are that Miss Kim has larger, more crenelated foliage and bluer flowers and the Korean lilac has smaller, flatter leaves and pinker flowers.
