A long cruise - Rome, Italy - part 2

The Spanish Steps are the widest staircase in Europe. Completed in the early 18th century, the 135 steps lead from Piazza di Spagna to Trinita del Monti church. Rain and too many people made this a sorta "OK, let's move on" stop.

Interestingly, there is this business at the base of the Spanish Steps. Begun in 1893, it is a tradition English Tea Room, with English fare only on the menu.

This is view looking south from the base of The Spanish Steps. Not much traffic, lots of pedestrians.

I located this small market. This was the produce area, one fish monger, one flower vendor and one meat vendor. It was down an alley in a residential area.

Next stop was Trevi Fountain. Ideally, one would stand back and get a decent photo. However, there were hundreds of tourists there all taking 'selfies' that required them to be close.

This is the street we walked in order to reach Trevi Fountain.

A bad photo, sorry. This is Santa Vicenzo e Anastasio church next to Trevi Fountain. We did not go in. However, in researching the name of the church, I discovered how important it is.

This Baroque church was finished in 1650 and, surprisingly it is where the embalmed hearts of 25 popes are located!

And, next door was this gelato shop.

Jim, your trip has brought back many memories of traveling with my husband. We had lunch at the cafe and for dessert, gelato from the gelato place nearby. Neil knew every gelato place in Italy.
On return trips he would plan ahead for his gelato cravings. I can still see the big satisfied smile on his face as he exited each place holding his gelato declaring that each place was better than the
last.
