Patio Cover

Sabra1974June 5, 2012

Hello aHello,

I just built a patio cover in my back yard. It is made of wood, in a sunny part of the yard, and the top is currently 2x2s spaced out 4 inches apart. My goal is to get a climbing plant to grow ALL OVER this patio cover and I am wondering what plans you might recommend. I would prefer something with a pleasant smell, that does not attract bees, insects, etc.

Can you help??

Hi & welcome to Gardenweb! This particular forum is for discussing stuff that's not necessarily garden-related. I might recommend trying your question on CA or vines forums, maybe both. Your idea sounds lovely, but I've never been to CA!

Sabra, I used to share a house in Newport Beach with 3 other ladies. The "leader" of our group was also in charge of the landscaping. We had a pergola over our back patio, which she covered with white bouganvilla. Wondering if that would work for you, too?

Please be mindful that anything that has a pleasant smell is going to attract pollinating insects of all kinds. That's what flowers are designed to do.

Your options for a bee-free plant are limited....or at least my imagination is limited! (The latter is probably more like it.)
