May at the NYBG

Monique z6a CT(6a CT)May 9, 2006

Well, I was getting tired of missing the spring flowers of the local gardens every year b/c IÂm too busy. On Friday evening I told my hubby that we should go to the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) on Saturday to see the spring season instead of working in the garden, going to dog events, painting the first floor or running errands like weÂve been doing every w/end. Sorry Deanne and Sue, I know I said a while back that we should all go together, but it was a spontaneous decision. IÂm willing to go back though :o)

Here are some photos of the gardens. I might post some of their containers on another thread. Enjoy.

Here is a link that might be useful: New York Botanical Garden

Fabu-Fabu! Love the use of purple foliage, the blooming Camassia (I'm waiting for mine still...), the variegated petasites (?), the lovely tones of the pansies in photo #5, the redbuds, the "all gold" with the dark heuchera (Obsidian?), slim Les and the critters.... You must have both really enjoyed your outing!

I know what you mean, Monique-I've got nurseries I can't even get to this year. Every so often you need to get out and smell the flowers, so to speak. I've never been to the NYBG in the spring but you're making me think I need to get down there (except who has time? lol). When it comes fabulous borders, they certainly have the market cornered.

Thanks for the pics!

Omigosh! Now I am convinced more than ever that I need to get to the NYBG! Stunning pics Monique. And look at all them tulips! :-) LOL! I *love* the antique looking colors of the tulips with the pansies in that one pic...looks like something out of a Rembrandt painting! And that mass of double flowering tulips are amazing! Well, I love all their color combinations just fabulous! The caterpillar is a riot and that one woodsy pic with the pond and the red maple between the dogwoods (?)'s like something I've dreamed of while reading Walden by Thoreau! Love that 'All Gold' too. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the link too...l'd like to find out who creates all these lovely combinations. A trip to the NYBG next spring is definitely on my list! Thanks again! Ei

OH WOW! What a fantabulous feast for the eyes! I was awe struck with the very first picture, and they went on and on! The flower creatures are so fun.
If I ever get to NY that will be the main place that I will want to see.
Thank you, Monique.

Monique, wonderful pictures of a beautiful place. I'm so glad you & Les decided to visit the NYBG at this time of year and that you 'took' us along with you.

Beautiful! (I already said that, didn't I? lol)

Monique - thanks so much for sharing -- you've hit the nail on the head too - every year I say I want to see local gardens, visit public gardens, etc., and then get sucked/pressed into the panic of cleaning my own gardens and planting.... You've renewed my thoughts that we should all make it a point to STOP and "smell the roses" and enjoy Spring and get out and look.
Im putting the NYBG on my Must List for this year and next. In the meantime, I love vicarious virtual visits!!

Totally fabulous Monique! Thanks so much for sharing such a fantastic garden. I really enjoyed it. I can't believe how full and lush everything is and what wonderful color echoes they have going on.

Well, we'll just have to put the NYBG on the itinerary for the next Idyllunion that happens to be in New England again!

Monique, I just went through these photos again and enjoyed them as much as the first time or more. Beautiful photos and very beautiful gardens.

Thank you (and Les) again for taking your camera with you when you toured the gardens and for sharing the photos.

Monique, I finally took time to look at your photos, and what a treat. Thank you so much for sharing. I love the colors in the tulip and pansy shot. You were very creative in all of the photos. They are all just gorgeous.
I am waiting for GS Jake to get out of school so we can go to the St. Louis Botanical Gardens. The Chilluhy(sp) Glass Exhibit is there this summer. I know he will enjoy seeing that with me. Norma

Monique, I loved your photo tour! I enjoyed viewing it the day I was home sick, but I was too cranky to post then. :o

Today I enjoyed the pics again on my high quality monitor at work. It was a treat!

And I got a good smile from the photo of Les "not touching" the catepillar.

Norma, I got to see the Chihully exhibit when it was in Chicago and it's absolutley delightful.

Hi Monique

I've enjoyed your photo tour several times but realzied I never commented on how wonderful it was. Thank you for posting such a treat! Isn't the rock garden amazing? I'd love to get back to visit - its been over 10 years since I was there.

Monique- Forgive my tardiness! I waited entirely too long to view your pics! BEAUTIFUL!!! I of course love all the pics but there's something about that one of the digitalis and tulips that strikes me(I'm a sucker for digitalis-such a cool plant). Just gorgeous spring greenery in every pic!

On the other hand, I can't help enjoying Les petting the off limits caterpillar; ) He's such a rebel, lol. So did he get escorted out? I'm sure they have a camera pointed at that exhibit you know; ) That frog kind of scares me.

Sorry it took me so long!
