Utah - intentional plant or weed?

thatgrrlMay 7, 2012

Hello,

Cross posting from the weeds forum.

I am very new to any kind of gardening or lawn care (but I fantasize that one day, I'll be great). I just moved into a house and would like to keep the yard looking nice and not kill any of the intentional plants, but I'm not sure if some are weeds or not.

Any advice on what these pictures could be?

Any advice is appreciated!

The first one is an Oenothera, Evening Primrose. It's probably O. biennis, a weed, but it sure looks like O. glazioviana, which is a nice, large flowering biennial. I'd let a flower or two open and see if they are large, fragrant and showy, or small, and decide if you want to keep it then.

The second picture is hard for me to make out. It looks like a plant about ready to bloom? It could be Campanula, a closer picture would help.
