Is that what I think?!

Disaster28June 17, 2014

Hello everyone! We recently bought a property where the garden was left to grow on its own without anyone tending to it. I'm trying to figure out what's a weed and what's worth keeping and there is this plant that to my untrained eyes looks like bamboo! Now I may be waaaay off bit I'm sure someone here can help. FYI I'm in Toronto and we had a brutal winter.

Does look like it!

If it is, I think you can easily just dig it out, watching for other shoots. Unless it's a clumping bamboo? Can you ask the former owners?

I have a bamboo that I coddle in my Ottawa garden that I brought from Vancouver. Mine dies back to the ground every year and doesn't spread much, but Toronto is much warmer so you may not want to risk it.
