I have been letting these grow because I don't know what they are and they have no sign of flowers. They are all in one area and there are many. Does anyone know if this is a weed?
Looks like the running goldenrod, Solidago canadensis. Fine for big, sunny areas. Number one perennial host plant for butterflies (more different kinds can lay eggs on it than any other perennial) and the fall flowers are good for fall butterflies like monarchs.
And I've seen birds pluck caterpillars off them to eat.
If you have a small, tidy or shady garden, not such a good plant.
Thank you so much!
