This is not a sedge. Probably a grass but "blades" are rigid and last yr's blades are still present as almost "woody" stems. It is growing on a property in the Western NC mtns.
A rush. Resembles Juncus effusus but the habitat doesn't seem right.
That does seem a little off doesn't it? But, I think you're correct! There aren't any bodies of water in the vicinity so no standing water per se...though it is over a drain field...and is heavily mulched....maybe it stays wet enough this way?
If the soil remains moist throughout the year that could be enough.
