I have at least three kinds of mint growing at my home, each having a distinct fragrance and taste, all of them are minty like pepperrmint.
I was wondering which one of these if any is peppermint
Impossible for us to tell, although I'd say the last if forced to decide. Which one smells/tastes like peppermint?
All of them do :(
Spearmint tends to be rigid and upright growing with smooth leaves similar to peppermint but peppermint has a distinct peppermint schnops aroma that is very distinctive. Candycane!! Applemint and Pineapple mint have pubescent or "fuzzy" leaves. Mojito from Cuba is very mild with a hint of Spearmint scent. Delish in tea as well as Mojitos because it's not overpowering like peppermint or spearmint. Chocolate mint is my son's favorite, mild aromatic leaves that make a wonderful garnish on any dessert or beverage. Crush your leaves again, see if you can find a distinction between what might be peppermint and what might be another mint. They all run and should be contained unless you don't mind them taking over your lawn/yard! I have a garden box of just Mojito mint...with or without the rum it's a delish refreshing libation in the summer with lime and simple syrup and sparkling water! Enjoy!
