Too late to fix patches after overseeding in NJ?

kevingalaxyOctober 24, 2011

So I overseeded the front and back this fall and overall everything has worked wonderfully - apart from a few small patches in the back. Is it too late to try and rough up the soil in the patches and throw down some seed? I'm in central NJ, not sure about soil temps but the air temp is 60F in the day and predicted to be between 45F and 33F at night. The grass seed i have is Rye/bluegrass northeast mix from pennington - i know the Bluegrass wont have a chance but should i bother to fix now or wait til spring/next fall?

Thanks!

The rye may have a chance. You should be able to find information listing the last possible seed date. New Jersey horticulture should reveal that. Otherwise you could try dormant seeding.
