'Exercising his demons'

anntn6b(z6b TN)February 4, 2007

A local sportscaster used the above phrase in a superbowl story.

The thought of a local football hero taking his devils out for a run followed by a few hours in the power gym.....

Ann - LOL!! It's so funny how people repeat phrases using words they *think* they heard, but without a bit of thought as to the possible (or impossible!) meanings.

I hear so many of these "mis-sayings" at work, that a co-worker and I have started keeping a log of them. After a few years, we're on page 6 of a legal pad (one phrase per line) - and most are absolutely hilarious. People are so funny, often when they least intend to be!

Well, the little guys do need at least a stroll once in a while ;]

AC, you should post them!

I like the people who persecute shoplifters. That'd probably work!

I want to see the list too! I heard a guest on a talk-show describing an event as an "outer-body experience". And then there was the newscaster (local) who stated that it was "LITERALLY raining cats and dogs!" Now that is NEWS!!

AnneC, wish you'd post the list.

As requested, here are a few more silly statements, gleaned from my "at work" list. (Ann, hope you don't mind my adding to your demons!) ;-)

"They've been sitting there fiddling their thumbs."

"I'd take that with a grain of sand."

"They were walking on pins and needles this morning."

"The ovulation of the ocean made me sick."

"It always ceases to amaze me..."

"The prices have been coming down, so it shouldn't be too exuberant."

"I need a can of ananimal spray paint."

"...and I watched the guy's car cross the meridian..."

"That's part of their French Benefit Package."

"I was astutely astounded."

"Those guys don't even know the proper normanclature."

"You just answered because you have a guilty complex."

"That was the cow's meow."

"We were hee-hawing back and forth about it awhile before we made our decision."

"It warmed him to the hackles of his heart."

"It's a mute point."

"I was just making a retardical comment."

"I feel like I'm stuck recreating the wheel."

"They have him underneath their thumbnails."

"Hey, relax, would ya? You sound really aspirated!"

"This country is going to hell in a nutshell."

Amen. ;-)

I love all of them, Anne, but you should not have posted "Cow's meow" in the evening. I'm going to be giggling about that for days.

I love them all, too. Especially:
"It always ceases to amaze me..."

I am going to start saying that to see if people notice. The other one I like to say is something about Newton inventing gravity... :-) It's the most amusing thing to do in the company of engineers.

Cheers,
Michelle

"I had a pit in my stomach" is another you could add to the list.

(I want to hear the cow's meow!)

I haven't checked in for awhile, so thanks for giving me a good chuckle this morning. I'm enjoying the mental picture of people hee-hawing back and forth. ; D
