rose with grey spanish moss spikes projecting from trunk

captApril 6, 2007

Got what looks like Spanish moss sticking out from the trunks of my Roses. It started at the ground and over the last 2 years has slowly worked it's way up the trunk.

could it be lichens?

is it gray colored? do you have a photo?
plants with lichens on them are usually not robust--do a google for some pics and possible treatment

I looked this up after remembering a trip to Florida--it may be a native bromeliad related to Spanish moss--- tillandsia
