San Francisco/Marin ornamental?

A colleague emailed me this photo looking for an ID on this plant. I'm stumped. His description: "It's about a foot high with 1/4 to 1/2 inch serrated leaves" and the berry tastes sweet. Would be thankful for suggestions...
