Bush on our property

Also wondering what this bush is that is next to our house. I think it is sending out runners all over our yard (with massive, thick roots) but I'm not positive.

Hard to tell but it looks a bit like a Red Twig Dogwood, Cornus sericea. Some varieties spread by underground runners.

Yes, definitely looks like a Cornus (dogwood).

Agree -- cornus sericea. If you spare it, it'll become a med-shrub w/white flower-tops in June followed by interesting berries. Got plenty of them along the border stream on my lot.

It could also be cornus racemosa, gray dogwood, pretty similar to sericea. Known for suckering, but a pretty native shrub with berries for the birds.
