Mt. Shasta

It really is visible from a hundred miles away. Amazing. The top is over two miles above the surrounding valley floor.

Michael, very beautiful. If you continue to post more photos, you may be seeing people at your doorstep.

Beautiful pics of a mountain I partly grew up "under." But the scary thing is I've never, ever seen so little snow on the Mountain.

gorgeous indeed! When wwe win the lottery, we will be snowbirds, spending summers in the mountains and winters at the beach... life in the fast lane!

I'm glad you enjoy them.

There's supposedly a non-technical trail to the summit so maybe I'll "climb" to the top one of these days instead of just driving by it.

Stop laughing, it could happen! :)

That's a nice picture. Do you happen to know if it still vents off any steam or gases? Most of the other Cascade volcanoes do vent off steam, but you can't always see it. I'm just curious.

I understand that it's still active although I didn't see any of that.

Lassen National Park is not far away--didn't go there but plan on trying to get back soon.

Thank you for the photos, Michael. I agree with nickelsmum, it's looking very bare.

As one of California's fourteeners, Shasta is on my list to hike. Surprisingly, it's actually more dangerous without the snow, because the rocks become unstable. If you do the hike, spend a night or two at elevation beforehand to get acclimated.

Mt. Lassen is a very easy hike because you can drive most of the way up, and the peak elevation is much lower, 10,451ft. It's also quite a fascinating area because of all the steaming pools and hot bubbling mud pots. Well worth a trip!

I'm glad you are enjoying yourself so much in northern California, Michael, seems like you have a new adventure every other week.
