This was a named plant came from a rare plant exchange, but the tag was lost. The person who traded it to me said the seedlings come true and as viral disease is widely thought to not be passed through seeds, I doubt that is a case of a virally infected species.

It depends on the type of virus. Some can/are spread through seed transmission. I would sure want to have that tested before I planted it in my yard. It looks like one of the ringspot viruses.
