Red flowering plant along lake in Maine

Wondered what this plant is. Red, lipstick like flowers, growing opposite each other.

Do the prominent leaves really go with the red flower?

Looks more like the fruit of Lonicera canadensis, which would match the leaves and stems.

Ye, the leaves are opposit, just like the flower.
