Pics from 'The Gilded Age'....Newport Mansions

celeste(zone 4 NH)November 19, 2006

Hi everybody,

DH and I so enjoyed our trip to Newport, Rhode Island last month and I wanted to share with you all photos of the Mansions. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, they will take your breath away! Several of these grand mansions are open for tours and it is fascinating to see how the aristocrats lived. These homes were called "summer cottages" and were only lived in for about 6-8 weeks during the summer season. They do not let you take inside photos, but here are some shots of the mansions & grounds. We are going back in December to visit the mansions when they are decked out for the Holidays.

I hope you enjoy the 'tour'.

These pictures are amazing---We stopped in Newport once on our way to somewhere else------It is an amazing place. Doesn't it just tickle you that they call these places Summer Cottages----

Can you imagine the cost of upkeep ---!!!!

Wow!! What great pictures! I can't even imagine trying to handle the upkeep on a house like those. The gardens are flawless (but too much grass :-) )
Thanks for posting these!
