What is this?

pstephens890July 3, 2014

This plant popped up in my front flower garden and I don't know what it is. I also want to keep it but need to dig it up and plant it elsewhere because it is right in front of my front door.

Here is a picture of the whole plant. The red flowers do not go with it.

Thanks! So that means it will be a tree? When is a good time to dig it up to transplant it? It is in my flower garden in front of my front door!

Well, living where I do I have no practical experience with Papaya. But I've seen them growing and they do not get that big in tree terms. You'll have to do some research as to when and how to transplant it. Or it could be a tropicalesque feature in your flower bed.

Depending where u live, they can be "small tree-like". In Southern CA it can grow to 15 feet. Papayas do not like to be transplanted. It's best to sow them directly where you would like them to grow.
