(fig?) Tree with Hard wrinkled fruit

Any help IDing this tree?

My boss was told it was a fig tree but doesn't look like fig leaves or fruit to me. He said it looks like fig if you split it open.

Growing in Southern California but he said a friend who liked to collect exotic plants gave it to him 10+ years ago.

That is a Fiddle Leaf Fig... a tropical plant normally grown indoors in most of the country and not an actual edible fig.

Several plants from the genus Ficus are commonly called fig, but AFAIK, only Ficus carica has edible fruit (for people.) The botanical name of the plant pictured above is Ficus lyrata.
