I saw one of these soil blocks for sale but it was rather pricey, $32. Have any of you used these? Do they hold up or does the clod of dirt melt when you water it?
For $32 you could buy a lifetime supply of plastic pots and seed starter trays or clear plastic containers about the size of a shoe box with clear plastic lids.
I do not personally own one, but many have had great success with the tool. I understand that it may take a few tries to get the soil consistency correct in order for the blocks to form without falling apart. I've noticed there are different sizes depending on your goal and whether or not you want to use the hand held version for a table setup or floor setup. There are also a number of retailers that sell the tool so I would do my homework for a reasonable price and reliable company.

There are two threads about soil blocks over in the SqFt Forum.
One thread, which is linked below is for making the soil blocks...
A second thread talks about how well they are holding up, and a second making method that is VERY inexpensive. I'll link it in another post.
