Heuchera like flowering shrub

Its size and shape is similar to that of a mature, flowering heuchera, and it has spiky balls with each spike a separate seed.

Native perennial, not a shrub.

You may want to rethink the seed collection. Although it is native it is considered a weed in gardens by many people since it self seeds so widely.
