Could someone tell me what this plant is? Not sure if it's a shrub or tree.
Sumac, Rhus spp. Maybe someone else can narrow it down to species.
Looks to be a Staghorn Sumac.
not a garden friendly plant.... it covers miles and miles of MI highways ...
it suckers wildly to accomplish such ...
but those red spikes are way cool.. eh .... velvety ...
"....not a garden friendly plant...." All you need is a lawnmower and it is absolutely fine. One shrub which supplies reliable Autumn colour even in our climate.
We have them along the roadside here in western TN, too. I have been wondering what it is, and have considered seed-napping some from the plants down the road...just kidding. I am going to ask the owner's permission. They look very beautiful!
It's a sumac species. They love roadsides for some reason. Very pretty!
