is this a 8 foot tall oenothera?

This is growing in full sun next to my milkweed butterfly nursery. It has one stalk that branches about four feet from the ground. It looks like some pictures of oenothera that I have seen on the web but I have not found any species that are so tall. I have not measured it yet but it is at least eight feet tall on the conservative side.The leaves are alternate.Thank you for your help!

Looks like Oenothera biennis to me. I've read it can get to over 7' tall. Mine usually is around 5' or so.

I just happened to see this thread in the "recent posts" box. My Oenothera biennis is blooming now, way over my head. I'm 5'4" so I would guess it to be at least 7 feet tall.
It can really overwhelm less vigorous plants quickly so I try to confine it to rough areas.

Thanks for the replies! I measured it - it is 8' 10" . Seems it is a good year for tall plants. My 7' variety of Joe Pye Weed finally reached 7' this year which makes me very happy. It hovered at " the last two years.
