Edible or poisonous berry?

Tree growing in Montreal.

Never seen any squirrel or bird eating from it.

Photo of berries.

Tree is the size of a service berry approx.

Cut one open and see if it resembles an apple (Malus). If so then you have a crabapple (also Malus).

if you dont know the difference between a fruit and a berry ...

i would suggest .... that you be extremely careful in sticking things in your mouth ...

and asking a bunch of strangers on the web itself.. is suspect ...

try to find a local program for learning about all that kind of stuff... contact a local community college... local garden clubs... or Provencal Ag offices to find such ...

Ken, the fruit is the size of a serviceberry, but I wasn't planning to eat it anyway ;-)

Thanks for the recommendations though.
