Not so common (?) roadside species

Not sure if this pic is clear enough for an ID but this was found growing in open swampy area along w/jewel weed, Agrimonia parviflora, Mimulus ringens, Joe Pye....wet, edge species. NC mtns. I can get a close-up if necessary. Thank-you for any ideas!

One of the Vernonias? I've never seen one so can't id any more precisely.
