Native shrub/small tree with blue berries

w1ldflower(5)August 28, 2014

Hi all! Photographed this one while on a hike in the upstate New York area. Slowly trying to develop my own plant database, with a lot of help from this crew! Photo was taken about a week ago and the berries were in the process of ripening from whitish green to blue at this stage. Shrub was at least 7 feet in height. I'm quite sure this was one of those plants I was warned against mistaking for a 'blueberry' as a child. Anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance!

It's one of the shrub dogwoods such as Cornus amomum or something similar.
