Tall Plant Velvety leaves

aseedisapromiseAugust 9, 2014

What can this be? It doesn't have the heart shape leaves of velvetleaf. The man who brought it to me said it was "bamboo". I told him it wasn't, but I didn't know what it was. He said the sample was small and new growth, but that it got to be six feet tall and made canes like bamboo. Stem did seem to be hollow. leaves get to be quite large-6-8 in. he said. This was growing in a garden at 5000 feet in South Dakota. Thanks.
