My Christmas holly has tiny white spots and several browning leaves. We had a tough winter here in north Texas but since I just planted it in late October I'm hoping its going to make it. Any ideas?
look close.. are the white spots actually bugs???

cold is going to be the default answer for the browning... perhaps complicated by transplant stress ...
but lets start with the white stuff
take a leaf to a good nursery.. if we cant ID it ....

It looks a lot like a holly leaf spot, Cylindrocladium sp. This is a common Ilex ailment in the southeast or where temperatures can get warm, there is high humidity or excessive water on the foliage. If so, this is a fungal pathogen so can be controlled with fungicides but can also be addressed by pruning back the plant. Be sure to collect and discard any fallen leaves.
It is also possible that this is a physiological leaf spot, common on a whole host of broadleaved evergreen shrubs and is environmentally related. Heavy hail could certainly produce such an appearance.

Definitely not bugs on leaves. I will have a leaf analyzed and see if it is a fungus problem. Thanks.
