Waxleaf Privet Hedge and Ficus Hedge Spacing

AlexFraiseMarch 24, 2011

I live in Los Angeles.

I want to plant a hedge of waxleaf privets in front of my house, but I've been getting conflicting information from nursuries about how far away to space the plants, between 4 f or 2 f apart.

I can get 15 gal plants right away for a good price. Obviously, spacing the pots 4 feet apart leaves big holes for now, which I'm OK with as long as they fill up within a couple of years and provide a tight hedge to replace the fence. The look with the 2 f spacing is much better, of course, and I don't mind the extra cost, but will this constrict air flow to the plants later on and create problems?

Please help. I've been getting so much confusing information over the past few weeks I don't know what to decide. I'm having the same problem with a ficus hedge in the back (2 or 4 feet apart)?

what is your personal goal ..

immediate satisfaction..

or patience ...

and your answer lies within ...

if budget is irrelevant .. then fill it in ASAP ... why wait

i dont see air flow as an issue.. since you want them to fill in completely anyway ...

bottom line.. you are overthinking it...

just tell us what you want.. right now .. dont think about it .... come on.. we are waiting....
