Couple bushes to identify

milkweeds4everAugust 15, 2014

My googling skills failed me so hope y'all can help!

Each are 3 ft tall and are growing in southern New Hampshire. The first bush (w/ fence in background) grows densely like weeds and spreading onto the lawn.

Much thanks in advance!

The second plant resembles 'Euonymus alatus', winged Euonymus. Here is a webiste with some helpful ID tips. Look for the corky wings on the larger stems.

I kind of hope I'm wrong because E. alatus is considered very invasive in the Northeast.

Here is a link that might be useful: Euonymus alatus

The second one definitely appears to be burning bush which is invasive in some areas of the northeast.

I don't recognize the first.

The first one looks like a dogwood of some kind - opposite leaves and those parallel curved veins that most dogwoods have. Not sure which ones you'd have up there. Cornus sericea, Redtwig Dogwood, maybe?

Narrowing it down to dogwood really helps, thank you weedwoman!

Yes, that makes sense weedwoman, especially with the described suckering nature which is true of some of the shrub dogwoods.
