need 4-5 foot shrub

I'm in N. CA (Sunset zone 14) and am looking for a shrub that is fairly dense (to act as a hedge) and ideally is evergreen, or partially evergreen, that grows to about 5 feet tall. I'd love something that doesn't take much work,and if it flowers(blue, purple or pink) all the better. We've got sandy soil (can amend) and the area gets full sun. It will get down to high 30s or 40s occasionally in winter, but not often. Any suggestions?

One of the ceanothus, if a smaller one, might be nice - I wish they could grow in the hot, humid East, as I loved them in San Francisco.... Breath of Heaven might not get tall enough. I'm drawing a blank now on what I remember since I've spent the past 8 years learning a whole new plant list to suit SC.

Have you looked in the Sunset Living Garden Book? They have lists of shrubs, etc. toward the front.
