Sweet Viburnum I am confused

sbcatcher1(8NWFL)March 21, 2007

I am looking for a natural hedge, under a few tall scrub pines in Sandy Soil (NW FL). I had decided on Viburnum due to their fast growth. I have been to a few nurseries & I am confused. What is the Scientific name for Sweet Viburnum? I have seen more than one name. I want these shrubs to be about 15ft. Is the Viburnum that I want? Any other suggestions?

Viburnum odoratissimum is the name. As you can from the link, they do get that big.

Here is a link that might be useful: Viburnum odoratissimum

Thanks for the link. Some of the places must have them labeled incorrectly. One had darker leaves. What type of fertilizer do you suggest? 10-10-10 or some other mix should I use on them?

Sample your soil and have it tested first. Otherwise you're just firing blind. And you can over-fertilize, even produce a toxicity by applying nutrients already present in adequate amounts.
