friend or foe?

scarletsflowers(zone 8)August 22, 2014

This little cuttie popped up under my Alaskan Dwarf Spruce and i'm wondering if it's a bush, i can only assume the local wildlife possibly brought me a treat. If it is, is it large or invasive?

As it's near an area i'll be planting my gayfeather seeds and i would rather they dominate of the area.

Thank you again, Zone 8

Where are you located? Zone 8 is not distinctive enough.

Alaskan Dwarf Spruce

==>> being a conifer-ite ... this name is confusing. ..

perhaps you mean Picea glauca 'conica' .... dwarf alberta spruce if you insist on common names ...

I was going off the information from my local nursery, the "concept" of gardening and learning all the proper terminology is obviously still a work in progress and as much as I'd love to remember all plant species well probably never going to happen. It's actually not a dwarf and since I normally just refer to it as that ugly " doctor Seuss " tree I thought I was doing pretty good! Ha! At any rate that bush I've seen around so thank you for a possible id ibilous :) those bushes also get fairly big from what I've seen so I'll be discarding it.

It's nice to come on here, read and learn from experienced gardeners who are supportive and helpful without criticizing. :)

I'm thinking the little plant is Cotinus coggygria as well. Your tree is Weeping Alaskan Cedar.

The Bush is certainly something, has that set a glow look. I guess i'll let it grow ... for now, it may make a nice skirt for the tree, as i really don't fancy that tree but don't have the heart to cut something down just for the sake of it.

Thanks for the ID!
