When to move fish?

moissacSeptember 25, 2013

I have a medium size garden pond with 17 goldfish etc of varying sizes. I plan to relocate and rebuild the pond. What I am not sure about is the best time of year to remove the fish to a temporary home in a tank (with pump etc) during the rebuild. The new pond will occupy some of the area of the existing one, so building the new one and then making the transfer is not an option. Any advice on this?

I once moved all of my goldfish 2 hours away in late Sept. to a new home. They lived in a 100 gallon livestock trough outside all winter until I got their new home built. It was in zone 7.
