Planting new roses where other roses have been

Brody36(8a PNW)March 2, 2014

Last year was my first year having roses and I planted 8 hybrid teas in the my front flower bed. Although I still like them I am planning on getting some more disease resistant plants this year. I was planning on digging up the teas and moving them to another bed and then adding some new soil and compost to the bed before planting the new roses, will this be ok or will the new roses get sick?

I would think that one year is too short a time to cause rose replant problems (unless you are a heavy sprayer and have turned your present soil into a lifeless chemical dump). The following link emphasises the importance of having "live" soil.

I've replanted roses many times in the same spot where another rose has been and have never had a problem. It's much more of an issue in Europe, for some reason, but almost a non-issue here, especially if you add new bagged soil and new native soil. Your new roses will be fine.
