I have heard that deutzia will root from cane tips just like forsythia. True? Anyone have experience with this shrub?
I don't know about tip rooting but it's very easy from cuttings. Take a bunch of foot long pieces of ripe wood and stick them in the ground to half their length. Make sure they don't dry out but otherwise ignore them until next year. You could do it now.
I propagated deutzia 'Chardonnay Pearls' from a green softwood cutting the size of a finger dipped in rooting hormone and planted in a pot under the cold frame.
Seems very easy to root.
It is in its 2-nd year now, growing nicely.
I was just mentioning to my husband that the deutzias (Nikko) I planted this spring are producing baby bushes everywhere that the stems are touching the ground. Good thing I like them, 'cause I'm going to have plenty. :)
