Hi....I live in Central Texas, west of Austin, and am interested in planting some Double Knockout Roses. Are these deer resistant?
Nope they aren't!!! At least not at my house. My three deer aren't particular at all. ha ha! I have some regular double knockouts that they hit last year. Soooooo irritating. Judy
Nope--last year I had all the new shoots and leaves eaten off of one of the two Blushing Pink Knockouts that flanked the concrete steps by my sidewalk. So I had one that leafed out and bloomed weeks earlier than the other--grrr.
Same here! They would eat the blooms for breakfast just the day they would be openning. Liquid Fence helped somewhat though. But you have to be persistant. This year I will plant lavander in front of them. We'll see if it helps.
I have read that not only lavendar, but also scented geraniums, chives, and rosemary work well to keep the deer away. I recently planted a Valentine Rose near my front door - so far so good! I will keep my fingers crossed. All the roses in my backyard are good - we have a Lab that keeps them safe so far. Good luck!
