Mahonia I.D. help

treeguy123(AL 7b)August 11, 2012

This Mahonia is growing in zone 7b and has probably seen low single digits or colder in it's lifetime.

The most likley plant would seem to be a Mahonia x media (Mahonia lomariifolia X Mahonia japonica.) But I've never seen a picture of one with this many leaflets, so it could very well be another type of hybrid or species.

Anybody know?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Can you show a close up of the leaf?

Thank you both.

Thedecoguy, I don't think it is Mahonia lomarifolia, because from what I've read it will die in the upper single digits to low teens. Plus Mahonia lomarifolia is one of the largest Mahonia plants. The one in the picture is a small to medium sized Mahonia.

esh_ga, I don't have the picture in any higher resolution, but I zoomed into some leaves and sharpened the picture a little to maybe give more clues:

I've got a 'Charity' with leaflets definitely but not too much shorter than shown here. Multiple clones of Mahonia x media have been named and distributed.
