Weeping Rose of Sharon

rheminAugust 10, 2010

Hello all,

New to Garden web. I've got a question for you.

Has anyone seen / heard of a Weeping Rose of Sharon?

I have one in my yard that started from seed. It's branches have a drooping/weeping habit. I prune it back every year. The weeping branches aren't from the weight of the flowers, they start growing that way well before buds start forming.

Other than having a shaggy look to it, it appears to be quite healthy

Was it doing this before you started the annual pruning?

Now that I think about it I donÂt think itÂs always been this way.
We did have the brick wall that it grew up next to power washed 5-6 years ago.
There also has been some pointing done on the building.
Perhaps some chemical got into the soil.

I guess the best thing for me to do is to root some cuttings elsewhere & see how they grow.

I think it's due to the way you are pruning it.

I don't think it's the pruning, especially since it grew from seed. I think it's a very interesting form and if it persists, I'd prune it as a standard.
