Azalea fall color pic

miclino(5)October 31, 2010

Just wanted to post this pic of azaleas wine red fall color. I assume this is Stewartsonian but I might be wrong. Was purhased with no tags and planted in full sun back when I had no clue what I was doing. Taken yesterday.

If you can grow them they are some fine cultivars out there.

I had three Rose Bud Azalea's and they were either rootbound or they hated the soil around them and never but out any roots.

Year one I had very brilliant wine red fall color like yours.

I can honestly say I like fall more so than spring!

Nice foliage combination of the azalea and the spirea with the frosty Snow-In-Summer ( Cerastium tomentosum) and dianthus. I also like crispness of the edging. Would you consider making the bed deeper to get more layers of plants in there?

The dianthus were just transplanted a month ago and I hope they will fill in well. The landscaping was done when we bought the house and I knew little about garden design. Of course I regret it now. The edging is brick on a cement base and will take some work to remove or change. Funny you should mention expanding the beds, I just spoke to a landscaper about expanding the beds out a little further. Decided to wait on it till spring but am open to suggestions on how best to do this, I am considering leaving the brick in place and expanding the bed out anyways............
